Grades 1-3
Enlightium School proudly offers primary school students book-based / computer base curriculum.
Grades 1-3 is an exciting time where students show great growth socially, academically and spiritually. Our lessons are developed in a way that integrates Language Arts, math, science and social studies and Biblical truth to personalized curriculum. We are helping students to build a solid academic foundation, to learn to love and to learn to care for others.
The Alpha Omega Publications (AOP) and BJU are Enlightium’s default curriculum for 1st-grade to 2nd grade students and Ignitia for 3rd Students. This primary support is print-based and computer based.

Heritage Studies 1 provides an age-appropriate study of family, community, jobs, land, and the United States, all presented within the framework of God’s redemptive plan. Each of the six units introduces a different field of social studies, giving students a broad foundation for future grades.

Coding – Lunar Loops: Students will participate in a hands-on game introducing the concept of loops. Following the game, they’ll work independently to create their own code program using the loop block.
In first grade music we continue to explore and create the talents that God has given us by moving and making music together. The larger goals include: being able to match musical pitch, tap the beat of songs, and beginning to compose music of our own. Some events include: Pilgrim Thanksgiving, various Elementary concerts,
In 1st grade, students continue developing locomotor and non-locomotor skills. Basic sport skills are introduced and practiced as well. As always, there is a lot of movement and activity during each PE class. We also talk about taking care of the bodies God has given us and being a good classmate.
Grade 2
Science 2 helps the student to learn to think scientifically. The teacher will demonstrate and explain science concepts, and the student will have the opportunity to take part in activities that reinforce the ideas that he is learning. These hands-on activities will help the student become an active learner and retain what he learns. Among the topics that will be discussed this year are how plants grow, what fossils show us, how light works, how matter changes, and how the body works.

Heritage Studies 2 continues the narrative of the founding of the United States—from Jamestown through the War for Independence—while explaining colonial farming, education, traditions, and expansion.

Reading 2 provides phonics instruction for review and multi-level discussion questions to promote critical thinking. Four reading texts provide interesting, developmentally appropriate selections from a variety of genres, such as realistic and historical fiction, fables, folktales, Bible accounts, biography, and drama as well as poetry. The reading selections provide a progression of difficulty in readability. Instruction is provided in phonics, oral reading, literary techniques, and comprehension. The selections are sequenced logically for readability and skill progression to help all students succeed.
Spelling 2 reinforces reliable spelling patterns and introduces common structural generalizations. Weekly journal entries provide a systematic composition experience. Students also learn fundamental dictionary skills and study Bible words. There are 32 Spelling lists with 18-20 words per list.

Bible 2, using the Worktext A Servant’s Heart, encourages students through a chronological study of the Old and New Testaments to live the Bible as well as know the Bible. Lessons include Bible study skills, character traits, and hymn histories. Dramatic segments present heroes of the faith, while application stories show students their need of Christ as Savior and demonstrate ways to apply biblical principles to personal life situations.

Students will use coordinates and coordinate planes to explore the functionality of the Scratch Motion blocks with the goal of animating a sprite to move around a treasure map.
In second grade music we focus especially on integrating music with what we are learning in the classroom. We also take a deeper look at musical notation and how to read and compose on the treble clef staff. We have activities such as the pilgrim dances, Chinese dance, and we are involved in Native American Thanksgiving
In 2nd grade, the basic movement and skills begun in the previous years is continued. More sport specific skills are added, and the activity and participation focus of each PE class continues. Students often leave the gym sweating. We continue to talk about how to take care of our God-given bodies.
Grade 3 Ignitia
English 3 incorporates biblical worldview shaping, standard English conventions, and writing. The course integrates speaking, listening, and viewing activities into the lessons. Lessons present language skills as essential tools for oral and written communication in five areas of life, encouraging students to formulate a biblical worldview of communication in their lives. Communication is important to help us maintain friendships, interact properly with authorities, get work done, celebrate what we enjoy, and connect with people who are different from us.

Each lesson plan is designed to enable students to achieve specific learning outcomes related to course aligned computer science competencies. For example, at the end of this course students will be able to:
- Differentiate between different types of technology.
- Write an algorithm using arrows.
- Demonstrate how to debug an algorithm that does not complete the desired task.
- Create a loop within an algorithm.
- Express the importance of protecting personal information while online.
- Express the importance of being kind to others while online.
Third grade will join a choir, and learning how to play the ukulele. Our classroom set to teach students chords, and melodies to many different songs. Some events include: Ukulele concerts, various elementary concerts, Grandfriends Day, and singing the national anthem at the whitecaps.
In 3rd grade, students practice basic movement skills and sports skills, and are encouraged to work on their fitness levels with class time workouts and participation to take care of the bodies God has given them. More sport-oriented games are played, and teamwork and sportsmanship are emphasized.
